Fall, It’s About Time!
Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Holy hell, do I love it.
I love the crackle of the leaves as they swirl in the wind and down the street.
I love the mass entrance of pumpkin-flavored everything. I recently bought pumpkin butter (delish) and pumpkin salsa (have yet to try) .
I love that I got married during the fall (October 17th). We married on a Friday in order to accommodate a Nebraska home game schedule and give college friends who traveled from out-of-town a chance to go to a game. (And yes, we went to the game the day after our wedding as well.) It may sound crazy but if you were from Nebraska, this is like an unwritten rule of wedding etiquette in Husker Nation. You can drive across Nebraska on game day and see no one except truckers and out of staters. Seriously.
I love the pumpkin patch trips. We attempt to go each each year and I pray that my kids still want to even when they are older. For one, I get the best pictures of my kids while we are there with the afternoon light and vibrant colors. And the apple cider donuts and apple cider slushes!
I love lighting up the outdoor fire pit as we drag out our rapidly diminishing time to spend on the patio. We bring out the fleece blankets, dress up in various layers, and settle in our fake wicker chairs to watch football or playoff baseball.
I love Halloween. I love being scared. Not there’s someone-trying-to-break-in-my-house-scared, but the ghost-haunted-creepy cemetery-scared. I used to watch every stupid horror flick. Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream…saw them all multiple times. I have yet to watch the newer ones because many of them seem too off the charts scary as hell. Saw I, II, III, XXII, whatever they are up to now doesn’t really appeal to me. What I like to watch now are the paranormal reality shows where they show a piece of fuzz flash across the screen, which they call an orb and is supposed to represent a ghost’s energy. These shows are necessarily scary as they are make your hair stand up. I would be on a ghost hunting show in a blood-curdling second but nothing would be intelligible for all the bleeping they would have to do. And all the dorky karate chopping at nothing I would be doing. If you can look cool while scared, then it is either fake or you just died.
Another favorite thing about fall is that I love making chili and savory soups again. Best thing about my chili is that I use beer in it. If you don’t cook your chili with beer, you are sooooo missing out. It’s not the healthiest thing to do but chances are if you eating chili, you are already drinking a beer and eating other crappy things so why the hell not?
I love the colors of fall. What a glorious way for trees to give their farewell before they take their long winter naps. I will always live where seasons change for this exact reason. I love fall. I NEED fall. In August, I crave those overcast sweatshirt days. And now they are here. Fall could be six months long I would perfectly content.
- What do you love about fall?
- If not fall, what IS your favorite season and why?
- How much pumpkin have you had since mid-September? I may need a pumpkin detox before Thanksgiving!
