See What I Thought about HEMINGWAY’S GIRL by Erika Robuck (@ErikaRobuck)
Sidenotes:
- This video was made because I didn’t think I could write a recommendation that didn’t sound like the other twelve-thousand posts written about Erika and her new book.
- Talking to a camera is not the same thing as interacting with a person. Therefore, I was nervous and was not funny at all. Except for how many times I said fantastic. That was actually kinda funny.
- The mess behind my head is a cork board full of things like my kids’ artwork, a map of my novel’s setting, an inspiring picture of what healthy/fit looks like, handwritten notes from friends, and papers I must not lose.
- I took 9,824 takes before I got the two clips I wanted. However, I wish I would’ve realized sooner, like on take three, that I could’ve made just one and edited the crap out of it in iMovie.
- Out of the three thumbnails YouTube gave me as choices, this one was the best. However, it does seem to display me in my natural state. Looks like I have a face for radio.
- The song I used was purchased from iTunes and is called Coastal by Kenny Chesney. It is from the Hemingway’s Whiskey album.

I'm a midwest gal living vicariously through books, writing, her crazy family, and a few great friends. My blog covers all of the above as I attempt to figure out what the hell I'm doing at any given moment.

Hallie!! I loved seeing you in live action and hearing your thoughts on the book. Thank you so much!
Did you catch how many times I said fantastic? I have a long way to go before I ever look natural in the camera but then again, I am a writer. I’m not supposed to, I guess. Another positive is that I learned how to do a video project in iMovie. Winning!
ANYWAY, congratulations on all the great reviews and media attention you are getting. I’m so proud of you and what you have done. You deserved every bit of praise you are getting. xo
What a great vlog — I loved it so much! What an original idea and you did an amazing job. I loved Hemingway’s Girl just as much as you did, for many of the same reasons. Such a great book!
Thanks dear. I felt like doing something a little different even though I look and sound like a total dork. However, we can’t get better at something unless we practice it over and over, right? Not that I plan on making a lot of vlogs but each time pushes me out of my comfort zone. Glad you liked it and look forward to your next video, whenever that may be!
It’s always good to shake things up, Hallie. You look great on screen!
I just finished HEMINGWAY’S GIRL and loved it. Loved the complexities in the relationships, and like you, I wanted to read more about Ernest Hemingway as soon as I closed the cover.
Thanks, Christi. You are too kind, really. I would never make it as a television personality. I should pin all of your pictures up on my computer next time so it feels more natural.
I can’t wait to read some of his work. Erika did such a great job with him!
Great job, Hallie! You’re a natural on camera. A face for radio, my $#@%.
Erika’s book is on the top of my to-read stack. Just need to finish reading/critiquing a friend’s manuscript and then I’m all in. Yay!
OMG, did you WATCH it? I do this slow blink thing, purse my lips a lot, scratch my face…I’m like a serious of tics.
Okay, I’m being a little facetious. So thank you, glad you liked it and look forward to hearing your thoughts on her book. xo
Ooooh! I loved the VLOG, Hallie! Love getting to see you on camera, in real life. How fun! We need to do more of this … you’re my inspiration. Great job. xo jk
I agree with Christi… you’re my inspiration – you’re sheer ferocity in tackling new technology and trying new things. Can I have some of that genetic makeup? And you looked great on camera. Nice job!
Hallie, you are an inspiration. I tried a VLOG once, and it was a train wreck. Very nicely done, and I’m honored you chose my book to do it.
Thanks for all of your comments!
