Favorites Things of the Week

Uh, huh, uh, huh…it’s Friday, you know it. <doing the Running Man>

Anyone else excited for the weekend?! I don’t really know why Fridays thrill me so much. I haven’t seen a happy hour in years and my weekends are usually jam packed with kids’ crap. But I’m determined to have a good time, dammit, so I’m creating my own Happy Hour right here.

Instead of sharing drinks on a patio, I’m sharing some of my favorite things about the week. (Until everyone gets on Google+ and we can do a group hangout, this will have to do.)

Favorite Someecard:

My friend Emily posted this on her Facebook page this week and this sums it my Fridays nicely…

Favorite Eating Clean Recipe:

Pumpkin Protein Crepes: (Makes about 15 crepes)

If you are on Pinterest at all, then you must know how pumpkin-y it’s gotten over there. Not that that’s a bad thing. Dude, I’m all about the pumpkin. It’s just that I have to keep wiping the drool off my keyboard. And most of the things pinned aren’t healthy recipes. Since I’ve been dying for something pumpkin, I decided to whip these up and thought I would share.

My ingredients:

  • Vanilla Protein Powder (I used two scoops)
  • Cinnamon (a heaping teaspoon, maybe more)
  • 1/2 can of pumpkin
  • Egg Beaters (used just enough to make protein powder runny)
  • Grated fresh ginger (I eyeballed it but probably about a 1/2 tsp.)

I put protein powder in the measuring bowl first then poured in my Egg Beaters. I used just enough to dissolve the powder but enough to make it runnier than pancake batter.

Here it is all mixed up.

After spraying the pan with butter spray, I poured a small amount of batter then swirled it to cover the bottom. I flipped them after about 30-45 sec. and voila! Pumpkin crepes loaded with protein and yummy pumpkin!

Favorite view from above:

I found this video as I flipped through my Flipboard app on my phone. I find the best stuff through that danged thing.

This shows the earth from an astronaut’s view at night. What’s cool is that the narrator points out countries and cities so you can understand what you are looking at. (Kansas City gets a mention at 2:55.)

Favorite freak-me-out:

This is a satellite view of air traffic in a 24-hour period. I dare you to not get freaked out as well.

Favorite Halloween Treat to Make:

This is strictly my favorite because it requires less than five ingredients and minimal effort. Sure, this may seem half-assy to some of you but most kids really don’t care and life isn’t a frickin’ Martha Stewart show.

Favorite photo:

This is my son sacking the quarterback on a blitz and ended up being the final defensive play of the game. It was a huge hit for that kid; I’m so proud of that little shit.

Favorite “Me” Time:

Last night I was able to go to our local library to see Laura Moriarty speak. She’s the author of The Chaperone She ended up speaking most of the time about the orphan train movement and one of the audience members spoke up later and mentioned her grandmother had been an orphan train rider. Since I was in the back of the room, I ended up being the last in line to get my book signed. I waited off to the side rather than stand in a long line and I was able to get some good pictures while chatting with the library staff.

Share what your favorite things were this week because I don’t want to sit here just talking to myself.

Have a wonderful weekend and go do something fun, will ya?

Very fun post, Hallie! I had an interesting week. It started with the American Royal Parade last Saturday. Perfect day, and I couldn’t believe it was the first time I’d ever gone to it. It was a wonderful experience, and I intend to make it a tradition! My son marched in it as a Cub Scout, and we were able to wave our flags and pay tribute to military and veterans. Sunday, both my kids joined a handbell choir– totally awesome. On Wednesday, we were given tickets to the Royals game, and little did we know we would witness history– we had no clue what was happening, really, but the Detroit player Miguel Cabrera was given the Triple Crown (yea, I had to google it). Kansas City gave him an amazing ovation; it was great to be there. I was so proud of our city. Okay, on Thursday, I found out I won a book called “In Need of a Good Wife”– you’ve probably heard of it. Totally made my day! Today, part of I-29 was made into “Trooper Fred Guthrie Jr. Memorial Highway”– an officer near to our hearts lost in the line of duty. An all-around great week! Hope your weekend is good, too!

Those crepes look awesome. I will be saving that recipe. I plan on spending my weekend going to my grandchildren’s sporting events because I really enjoy watching them play. I loved your beautiful picture!

MEH and I watched the astronaut’s view together – very cool! And yes, I was freaked out with the 24 hour air traffic, YIKES! I love the action photo of your son (and of you and Laura at the library)! The highlight of my weekend was enjoying the first weekend since late August that we had nothing to do and nowhere to go. It’s been a wild fall! We enjoyed it by “leaf peeping” (which I wrote about on my blog today!).

    • Love the leaves now; Instagram is loaded with pictures. That’s great that you had a great low-key weekend but you might have to explain what those are again. I have no recollection! :)
