What Books Are Weighing Your Night Stand Down? Mine Needs Reinforcements!
These are the books on my immediate to-read pile. Holy crap! With writing blog posts, freelance work, and scribbling in my novel here and there, this is what I need to tackle as well. When am I supposed to eat, workout, clean, and maybe, I don’t know…breathe?
Some of these books are for other blogs (SheReads and Great New Books) and I’ve started a few. But this isn’t all. I also have a “stack” of e-books to read or am reading. E-books I’m currently reading are

Submerged by Dani Pettrey and…
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand (my book club’s pick this month).

I have The Bookie’s Son by Andrew Goldstein (recommended by Sharon Bially)

and Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland in my ebook cue.
Other books I can’t wait to dive into are all of Sarah Jio’s books,

This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper…

Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown…

and The Mermaid Collector by Erika Marks.
I know. I have a serious problem. Either I get to readin’ or my nightstand’s gonna fall through my bedroom floor.
What about you?
- What’s on your nightstand right now?
- What are you dying to read next?
- When do you like to read? Morning, after a meal, before bed?
Also, don’t forget to stop by Great New Books!
Erika Robuck’s novel Hemingway’s Girl released today (yay!) and we are featuring it for our next book discussion. Also, vote for 3 of your favorite books we should read in the next few months.
Join us for some great discussion and perhaps we can lighten the nightstand load together!

I'm a midwest gal living vicariously through books, writing, her crazy family, and a few great friends. My blog covers all of the above as I attempt to figure out what the hell I'm doing at any given moment.

I’m so relieved to see that I’ve read four of the books in your stack on your nightstand (I’m releived because I feel like I don’t ever make any headway!)… I just received Erika Robuck’s book in the mail today, yahoo! And I’m also reading several others. And can’t wait to read Erika Marks’ book soon — and Lies Beneath. Plus, every other book you’ve listed (some I didn’t know about) now must be added to my list, somehow. Good luck to both of us finding breathing time!!
Added several of these to MY nightstand! I also have The Paris Wife, The Magicians and THe Boy in the Suitcase from the library this week.
I finished Unbroken last week and even though it wasn’t something I would have chosen, I absolutely loved it. I am amazed at how she chose to tell that story and I could NOT put it down.
I read all the time and anytime. I read a lot late at night….I read while I’m waiting in carpool line at school….I read on the steps while my kids are playing in the driveway (since my little guy is still young enough that I actually have to be outside with him)….I read at the gym….I ALWAYS have a book in my purse and car and I’m usually reading a couple of books at the same time.
Last week I had a kid wake early and get in bed with me at 5am. SHe fell back to sleep, but I couldn’t so I went out to the couch to read until everyone else had to get up for school. My 8 year old happened to wake up early too and came downstairs with her book. We snuggled and read our books for 45 minutes before I had to make breakfast. It was an AMAZING start to my day! I love seeing her love books the way I do!
I think that is so great that you guys have that in common. She is an amazing kid!
Unbroken is my “what I read on the treadmill” book so it hasn’t been consuming…yet. I think I would be reading more like you do if I didn’t get on my computer. My social media habit is killing my reading habit.
Thanks for sharing what you are reading! I’m going to go check those out. xo
I love this! I write about my own “stack” all the time – and absolutely love hearing what others are reading. I have a couple of fiction books on my list, including Lee Woodruff’s and Allison Pearson’s new books, and Madeline Levine’s Teach Your Children Well, a couple of books by John O’Donohue, and re-reading Reviving Ophelia. Also, I always keep a couple of Annie Dillard books on my bedside table, and turn to them often. xox
I haven’t heard of some of those authors-I’ll have to go check them out! Thanks for sharing your reads. I am always checking out what other people are reading at the pool, the doctor’s office, at the gym, etc. I’m sure people think I’m a freak. But they have it all wrong; I’m just a nerd looking for my next
Thanks for stopping by Lindsey!
victimbook. What a beautiful stack you have going, Hallie! I love it!
I have really enjoyed reading a bunch of books this summer, and am currently reading Ann Patchett’s Bel Canto. I loved her newest State of Wonder, and find Bel Canto a bit different but also great.
Happy reading!
Ann is definitely on my list of authors I want to read. I’ve heard nothing but great things about all of her books. Happy reading to you, too!
I have THE same dilemma, only my TBR stack is TRULY crashing down. I had to buy TWO new bookcases to house them. I think the running total of printed books TBR is …gulp … up to 47. And on my Kindle … another 4 or 5. Help me… I have a problem, indeed.
I read on the treadmill and before bed. Dying to read: both Erika’s books; Shine Shine Shine; The Snow Child; The Underside of Joy; The Book of Jonas; The Dovekeepers; The Care and Handling of Roses with Thorns; A Land More Kind than Home… Do you see how great my problem is?
Currently reading and LOVING: The Light Between Oceans and The Reckoning.
I really, really want to start The Light Between Oceans but I am forcing myself to finish my stack first. And TWO bookcases! I just gave a friend a few books to read but some are coming back because they are signed. You could turn your bookshelves into a library! That is if you had people living within a five-mile radius.
I love this post and may steal the idea some time. (Will credit you and link back of course). I am so overwhelmed. My next read is obviously Hemingway’s Girl, but I also have a draft of a my friend’s novel I promised to read waiting on my Kindle. I have a book by Julie Klam and numerous others. It feels endless, but in a good, promising sort of way.
Your stack looks great, even if daunting.
Steal away! I look forward to reading your post and seeing your own stack. Hopefully, my stack has dwindled or at least cycled through. Reading is starting to stress me out. Seems a bit ridiculous but I guess it’s a good stress to have. I can think of a lot worse problems, right?
OMG, where to begin?! I had so many books on my nightstand/TBR pile that a few weekends ago I completely reorganized my shelves and tucked them away. I still plan on reading them, but at least this way it’s less intimidating, and it’s not cluttering my nightstand. I also get a nice sense of accomplishment when I finish one book and get to walk over to my shelves, slide it back in, and slide out the next one.
Right now I’m reading Jenna Blum’s The Stormchasers (just started, but liking it so far). Next on my list is either Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder, Mia March’s Meryl Streep Movie Club, or The Unfinished Work Of Elizabeth D. I always have 3 possible “nexts” because usually what I’ll feel like reading next will depend on what mood the last book left me in. It’s the strangest thing to have so many books on the TBR pile–I want to get through them all, but I want to savor each and every one.
